Every morning nature puts on a show in Sedona for all to see; the sunrise is one of the most beautiful parts of the day in this desert landscape! While watching the sunrise from anywhere is a stunning and breathtaking experience, there are a few spots in particular that are worth the trip to make the event magical. Best Places to Watch the Sunrise in Sedona:
Airport Mesa
Sedona is the perfect place to look at a sunrise thanks to the long distance viewing and natural rock formations. Airport Mesa has views from Airport Road, where you park and hike up a trail. Once you pick a spot you can see the sun rise over Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, and Courthouse Butte! It’s a great location to take in a multitude of naturally amazing views.
Doe Mountain
There are plenty of places where a 360-degree view makes for a perfect sunrise or sunset, Doe Mountain is the prime example. After a short hike to an elevation of 450-feet, you can claim a spot and see the sunrise. Here you’ll also find views of downtown Sedona, Capitol Butte, and Verde Valley.
Sugarloaf Trail
Right off of Little Elf you’ll find a small parking lot. From that parking lot you can take a short hike up the trail and find the perfect sunrise views. After the sun has risen head to the main trail and hike out to the cliff overlook! You’ll be rewarded with an amazing view of Devil’s Kitchen!
Red Rock Crossing & Cathedral Rock
Some of the best views in Sedona require a bit of work. Red Rock Crossing & Cathedral Rock require a bit of a hike, and you should definitely pack your usual hiking gear. Travel to Crescent Moon Ranch, and hike along the creek that passes nearby. Once at the creek, you’ll find that there are plenty of sun rise viewing spots.
Before you head out on your sunrise hike be sure to check for specific sunrise times so that you’re not late. If you plan on being out for longer than just the sunrise make sure to pack enough supplies to stay safe and prepared. Also you will want to pack your camera or smartphones so you can capture the beautiful show!
